Delores: Hi K.T. I'm glad you could stop by.
K.T. It's good to be here.
Delores:Would you share a little bit about your motivation to become a writer?
K.T.: I developed a passion for writing at an early age. It’s something that has never left me. I have always enjoyed some form of writing.
Delores: Have you always written novels? If not, what are some jobs you have tried before?
K.T.: No. I began my career as a sportswriter at a Deep South newspaper in the early 1990’s. I still have that profession as my day job.
Delores: We know that you write, but who do you enjoy reading?
K.T.: Best-selling novelist Carly Phillips. I lovd her four-book Hot Zone series, which explores the Public Relations side of professional sports in New York. That was one of my inspirations for the Cotton series. I’m also a big fan of Pamela Britton, an award-winning NASCAR author. I enjoyed her six book series. I would like to add that these two authors took the time to give me pointers. The fact that they would do this has meant a great deal to me.
Delores: What made you decide to do romance? Why an interacial storyline
K.T.: I’ve seen sports romance books in bookstores across the nation, and on the internet. I’ve rarely seen any about football. I just felt it was time to explore that avenue and give the gridiron its due.
K.T.: Why interacial? There are many multi-cultural and bi-racial stories already in the market via e-books or in print. Red Rose and Wendi Felter have given me a chance to be part of it.
Delores: What does your book offer that others don't?
K.T.: I’ve seen countless interracial romance angles between white men and black women. Rarely have I seen any about the black men/ white women. Some people have said that doesn’t sell, but I disagree. That side needs to be explored.
Delores: Didn't this cause a lot of doors to be closed in your face?
I intend on blowing the doors down on this subject, damn it (LOL).
Delores: Do you have any advice to the new authors?
K.T.: Don’t get discouraged about getting your manuscript rejected. Rejection is part of the business. I was down in the dumps about Picking Cotton getting rejected around the Christmas holidays. The editor showed me what I did wrong. Two authors sat me down and encouraged me to regroup. I did and corrected those mistakes. If this is what you want to do, keep plugging along.
Delores: Do you have a tentative date for release yet?
K.T.: I've been told it will be out within the next three months.

No Holidays for Dentists
I have come to the logical conclusion (aided by various pain killers) that dentists no longer need holidays. I speak from a recent experience. That could have been avoided if my dentist had not taken his usually (week after the fourth) vacation.
It begin innocently enough. I awoke the Sunday after Friday (July 4th) with a sinus headache. It continued to pick up force but I managed to ward off most of the pain by taking some over the counter medications.
On Monday I could feel my gum begin to swell. My tooth seemed to be getting an abcess. This would have been no biggie. After all, I had experienced this before. Sinus infection triggers an abcess. However, the last time my dentist was available. I decide to stick it out. This decision was short lived by Tuesday I decided to pay my family doctor a visit. I couldn't get an that morning but I was told I could be a walk in between 2:00 and 4:00pm. I would be there with bells on. I brought a book and another dose of Tylenol and prepared for a long wait. The wait unfortunately, was not that long. I say unfortunately because at exactly 3:02, much to my dismay the nurse announces that the Doctor will not be seeing walk-ins. He has an emergency. Well so Do I. I was told to be back at 8:30am Wed.
I returned home to try every home remedy known to mankind. I even rubbed my neck down in Vick's Vapor Rub. By 7:17, I gave up. I walked into the ER on Tuesday at 7:29. I returned home Wednesday morning at 2:28. Tired, disgusted, but painfree. Thank Goodness!.
Now I want to make a law..No Dental Holidays. Are you with me?
