Eve Summers---Does She Have A Slave of Her Own Desire????

Delores: I'd like to Welcome to my blog Eve Summers. Eve is a fellow Red Rose Author.

Delores: Hi, Eve I'm Glad you could stop by.

Eve: Glad to be Here

Delores: I would like to start with one of my favorite questions...If you could be one of your characters, who would you be and why?

Eve: Hmmm, that's a tricky one. I usually put my characters through hell for the sake of a good story. Do I really want to be one of them? Heck, yes! It changes from month to month, but currently I'd love to be Clare from "A Slave of My Own Desire (http://redrosepublishing.com/bookstore/product_info.php?cPath=90_38&products_id=245).
She's feisty, intelligent and happily in love (or is it lust?) with a gorgeous hunk who will make her every fantasy come true.

Delores: I am sure we all would be happy to have a hunk at our beck and call.

Delores: What do you like to read in your spare time?

Eve: I like really enjoy women's fiction. It's a bit of an umbrella term for anything from romance to literature, and I love it all!

Delores: Is there anything that influences you? What compels you to write?

Eve: I'm heavily influenced by what I myself like to read, I confess. For example, I cannot stand silly heroines like Bridget Jones or Stephanie Plum, so all the women in my books are as far from ditsy as I can possibly get away with while still having fun with them.
In general, I'd like my books to change people's lives. I'd like to make them laugh and think and feel better.

Delores: What is a typical writing day for you?

Eve: Either promo (like this interview, online chats, book signings) or writing at least 1000 words of my latest novel. Because of my day job and family, my typical working day is usually a night.

Delores: Is there ever a time you find it hard to find your muse?

Eve: Writer's block for me is usually the result of something going wrong in my life. I could be depressed, or worried about my job, or stressed by my otherwise wonderful husband. So the best way to unblock is to get my head right. Sometimes all I need is a walk or a girlfriend's ear, other times it's a massage or retail therapy... lol.

Delores: Tell us what you have coming up......

Eve: Here is the hot-hot-hot book cover and excerpt for "Danger, Word Games" due to be released by Red Rose Publishing in early 2009.

The restaurant’s restroom mirror was still sneering at her. She retouched her lipstick, enjoying the creamy sensation on her mouth. Her heels clanged on the marble floor as she re-entered the lobby.
No sight of Mr. MaybeRight. Good riddance.
“Call me a cab,” she said to the passing waiter.
The boy, he couldn’t have been more than twenty-five, eyed her with a grin. “You are a real cab,” he said, his face deadpan.
“Cute,” she found herself smiling back. Here was a man who understood the value of words. “Now if you could perhaps order me -” she checked herself, “order one for me?”
He pressed a button in the wall. “And now you will give me your phone number,” he said. It was a statement, not a request.
She shrugged, not yet sure whether she was amused or irritated by his rudeness. It was better than Mr. MaybeRight’s cordiality, at any rate. Good manners were dishonest by their very nature. She smiled at the waiter. “Do you always work this fast?”

Delores: What are your goals for the next 5 years or so?....

Eve: I'm writing a young adult novella, a murder mystery, a women's literature novel and a romantic novelette. That should keep me busy next year, LOL.

In 5 years' time, I hope to have them all (and more) published. I'd like at least one on the New York Times Bestseller list and another the winner of the Broadband Orange Prize for Fiction.

In addition, of course, I'd like to make sure that my writing dreams do not interfere with my wonderful family and home.

Delores: It always helps to have a good strong base in your life. Good for you. I just have a couple of more questions.Who is your perfect hero? And why? What do you do for inspiration?

Eve: I love charming alpha males, and I like naughty boys. Sawyer from LOST is my perfect hero, and his looks are my perfect inspiration. I know, I know, how shallow can you get, right?

Delores: LOL

Eve: The other inspiration is my own life. I listen, look and twist real life situations into points of conflict in my books. As a result, my ex-boss (whom I murdered in one of my books) hates me for that, and many friends think twice before they whisper their secrets into my ear.

Delores: Eve, I'm so happy you dropped by. Please drop by Red Rose Publishing to grab your own copy of Eve's book.

Avenging Angel Author--Kim Smith

Delores: If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
Kim: I would be Shannon's aunt Tillie, because she really knows how to cook. She runs a restaurant and she is good at the stove no matter what the dish is.
Delores: LOL
Delores:What's your favorite genre to read?
Kim: Historical fiction (romance or other) just because I am transported to a new time and taught a lot about history.
Delores: Who or what influences you when you write? What do you do on a typical writing day? Kim: When I write, I like to listen to music, or either just be alone and in a silent place. I find writing in a crowded restaurant or cafe, or even in my own home impossible. I wasn't that way when I was younger, but for some reason, I need more concentration now (maybe it is that inner editor?) A typical day of writing is, I get up in the morning, I make a pot of coffee, sit down at the computer, pull up the WIP, reread what I last wrote, edit it a bit, then move forward. I do not edit heavily on a first draft, only make a few word changes to make sure that what I am trying to convey comes through. Once I have gotten the word count down that I wanted to get, I go off and surf, and email, and blog, and play games. If I go and do that before I write, I will NEVER get the writing finished. I have done 500 words in the morning, 500 words in the afternoon, and 500 words in the evening when I am really going at it. I can cover a lot of ground when I need to.
Delores: When you have writer's block how do you break free?
Kim: Shut off the computer, go to the park, and walk around the lake and free my mind. There is nothing like refilling the well of inspiration with nature to get the juices flowing again. Sometimes I will go for days, weeks, months without writing a word on the WIP, and I allow that time to happen, because I believe it is my creative mind giving itself time to adjust to inventing a story. Then one day, while I am doing something else, maybe just walking through Walmart, I will get a nudge and know the time has come to return to my writing chair. I always go, because when the muse calls, it's not nice to ignore her.
Delores: Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?
Kim: The next book in the works is the second Shannon Wallace mystery lovingly entitled Buried Angel. A little teaser for you: Shannon and Dwayne turn up more than tombstones at Scott's Funeral Home and Cemetery.
Delores: Now that sounds very promising……
Delores: Please tell us what you have planned next? In 5 years, where do you see yourself? - In general and in you're writing career –
Kim: I have many novels planned and in the works. I keep trying to nail down what I am good at. I think it is mystery. I also love to write YA and romance and fantasy. If my fans keep reading, I will keep writing. Something. In five years, I see myself having five books out. I see myself having ten short stories out. I see myself having more fun than a barrel of monkeys too. I hope you all are a part of it.
Delores: Who is your perfect hero?
Kim: MY perfect hero is my husband.
Delores: That is too Sweet.
Delores: And could you tell us why?
Kim: He is my rock. He takes care of me, looks out for me, keeps me honest.
Delores: What do you do for inspiration?
Kim: I read. I read as much as I have time for, and sadly here lately there has been a lot less time. I always say, so many books so little time, but that is becoming more and more true. I told myself last year that for a new year's resolution I would read 52 books this year. Sorrowfully I must admit I didn't make it. I have read 32 and am in the middle of 33 with 34 languishing in the wings. Maybe next year!
Delores: Thanks for stopping by Kim. I look forward to reading Avenging Angel. Visit Kim and many of my other talented author friends at http://www.redrosepublishing.com/

New Author Stopping By

Kim Smith author of the Shannon Wallace Mysteries will be stopping by on Sunday. Please stop by to say hello, and learn more about her.
See you then.

Thanksgiving Trauma

I woke up Wednesday morning looking forward to Thanksgiving Day. Although, I love to cook; I wouldn't have to this year. I had known this since the first week In October. We were originally invited(myself, husband, three kids) to Thanksgiving with my family. Get this...bring nothing but yourself and containers for leftover food. I thought to myself. Now that's a plan.
Enter my stepson. He and his wife have a home, which we have not yet visited. They live almost two hours away. With our crazy schedules, children & sports etc. We haven't been there yet. The couple of times we were going to visit, they had other plans and so on.
This year, November 7th, to be precise, he invited us to his house. How could we refuse? So, we canceled other plans and determined to go and have our meal there. Now, when he invited we were at a basketball game. Although his wife was there, I wanted to make certain she was okay with it. She was sitting behind him so, I said talk it over with your wife. "Yes ma'am." he says. The last thing I mentioned before we left was don't forget to talk to your wife. He called to wish both my husband and daughter 'happy birthday', they have birthdays the second week in November. They reminded him about the event by asking what do we need to bring etc.
The week of the 17th we left voice messages. He did not return them. But this was no cause to be alarmed. He often returns a call a week or even two later. Well, to make a long story short the day before Thanksgiving is when she found out she was cooking. Not wanting to leave the burden on her I volunteered to go early, bring something, and help cook.
My husband wanting to be helpful, called his son. He offered the advice, never put your wife on the spot like that. Give her the opportunity to decide etc.etc. The end result? I somehow wound up being the host/cook for Thanksgiving. I also spent more money than I would have when cooking. Because I start early buying broth, cake flour, etc. a little along.
I was not a happy camper. But, I cooked my turkey Wednesday night. We were running around like mad scientist. I still felt tremendous stress. Although hubby, did help by cleaning out the refrigerator, washing clothes etc. My children who love to cook helped as well. By Thanksgiving morning I had resolved myself to cooking. I ran to the store for some forgotten items. I return home to find......even more people were coming. He owes me BIG time.
